Tadej Pirc

DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIST & PHILOSOPHER

Exploring the nexus of philosophy and development, I am dedicated to extracting clarity from complexity. With a comprehensive approach, I delve into the depths of pressing challenges seeking to unravel the intricate tapestry of societal, technological, and environmental trends that will shape our collective future.

I am committed to envisioning a tomorrow that is not just possible but also preferable, guiding decision-makers toward choices that foster long-term sustainability and a better world for all.

My academic background is in Philosophy, Economics, and International Relations. I completed my doctoral research in Ljubljana and Tübingen, receiving my PhD in Philosophy in 2015. Following post-doc roles in Sarajevo, Graz, and Bratislava, I got habilitated as an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Ljubljana in 2017 and began my research work in African Studies loosely affiliated with Leipzig University in 2018.

WHAT I KNOW & DO

I balance two career paths: as a development strategist at a development agency and as a researcher in academia. My research approach combines metaphysics with real-world issues to better grasp the present and innovate for the future. This involves merging diverse ideas and disciplines for a wider perspective.

I’m really into sustainable development, working on projects that cover everything from biodiversity, nature and dark sky conservation to urban redevelopment, social innovation and social equity, primarily through EU-funded initiatives. I also provide advice on development policies and strategies.

NOTES & IDEAS

In this section, you can read through some of my short texts on various topics, usually inspired by my most recent readings.

Africa as a Stereotype

In this text, I reflect on two books, focusing on the ideas they portray and contextualise within the discourse about, and from within, Africa.
